The past fortnight has put the politically charged issue of child safety and welfare at the front of the political agenda in Queensland. With both the Premier and Deputy Premier out of the state, the acting Premier, Treasurer Curtis Pitt and the Child Safety Minister Shannon Fentiman, were left to respond to community and media questions regarding the handing of departmental matters in the wake of the disappearance and subsequent murder of Tiahleigh Palmer.

The Minister announced details of the government’s Australian Priority Investment Approach to Welfare in a landmark address to the National Press Club where he outlined the findings of a new report about what is happening to people in the welfare system.

Jobs for the Future

On the 19th August, NSW Premier the Hon. Mike Baird, announced his Government’s Jobs for the Future report, which outlines how the NSW Government plans on reaching their target of creating one million additional jobs by 2036.

This report, which included some of the most extensive research ever undertaken in NSW on job growth, includes 20-year priorities and 19 initial three to four year actions, some of which are already underway.
