The Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has today announced changes to the Federal Ministry, following the election of Michael McCormack as Leader of the Nationals and his appointment to the Deputy Prime Ministership earlier this week.

Victorian Nationals MP Darren Chester returns to the Ministry as Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Minister for Defence Personnel and Minister Assisting for the Centenary of ANZAC - portfolios currently held by Mr McCormack.

Michael McCormack has been sworn in as Australia’s new Deputy Prime Minister, following his victory in a leadership ballot of the Federal Nationals this morning in Canberra.

It follows a turbulent few weeks for the party and the Turnbull Government, which culminated in Barnaby Joyce announcing last Friday that he would stand down as Nationals leader.

Tasmania will head to the polls on March 3 to determine who will form the next State Government.

The Liberal Party – lead by Premier Will Hodgman – currently holds majority representing 15 out of a possible 25 seats. Labor will likely build on the seven seats they currently hold, however will need to win an additional six seats across Tasmania’s five electorates to gain power.
